Shipping – Why Bring Your Household Goods?

To move household goods is worth in many ways, specially because you could bring stuff like electronics and appliances that is cheaper in Ecuador.

There are some other items that you won’t find  in Ecuador  or that their  prices are too high here, for example  items  like good mattresses (specially for back pain), good pillows, cash iron are not easy to find  here either, the prices of  stainless  steel pots are expensive ...

Other items like generators, big TVs 60", ziplog bags, good heaters or air conditioners, computers, refrigerators, stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, stereos &  electronics in general are cheaper in USA, Canada  and other countries  than  in  Ecuador,  the reason is because we import them and importers must pay high taxes to import them..

You have to be aware and bring brands like Sony, Panasonic, Lg, Samsung, Whirpool, JVC that have spare parts.

There are tools for different fields that in Ecuador are not available or are too expensive, especially for carpenter activity.

Only the difference in prices in above items would pay a good portion of your shipment.

Shipping – Options

You have two options to move your goods to Ecuador:

1) You can bring  your household goods  DUTY FREE when you already have stamped  on  your  passports  your  temporary visas.

2) If you don’t have your temporary visa yet and  you need  to bring  your belongings once you move to Ecuador, the option is to  pay a bond (warrantee) tothe Ecuadorian Customs to clear your belongings while your visas are in process.    Customs will refund you

the bond once you show  our temporary visas  stamped  on your passport and after a procedure to get it.  You will have 6 months to  do it after the date that your bond was accepted.

The option of the bond to clear your belongings is good because  Ecuadorian Customs will refund you  this money once you have  your temporary visa, if you  leave your belongings in origin in a warehouse, you won’t get that money back.

Options to ship:

Containers:  You can bring a full 20' or 40' container.

Pallets:  Are a wood base where the boxes  and bins  are on and will be  secured only  by wrapping with a plastic  around the boxes and bins  on it.   Pallets  are wood  sticks crossed that support a  limit weight on  them and less cubic  meters could be loaded.  Pallets don't provide as much protection to the cargo.

Liftvans:  Are used when you want the cargo to be more  protected and you need to ship more cubic meters.   Liftvans are tall wood crates.  Inside  the  liftvans you  can  bring  approx. 5.6  cubic meters  of boxes  and bins.  Is good to bring no more than 3 liftvans in case you need 4, it would be better to use a 20’ container.

Pallets and liftvans will share space in a 20' or  40' container with other  cargo consolidated  to be shipped to  Ecuador

Small cargo shipped  in pallets or  liftvans  will be  moved  to  some warehouses  to be  consolidated  with  other  cargo  before they are shipped  to  the same destination, in our case to Guayaquil, Ecuador.    Please keep this in  mind when  you take  the decision of how much protected during the transit time do you want your cargo to be.

For above reasons we recommend and we ship small cargo only using  liftvans that protects  the cargo during  the transit time.
